Piercing Aftercare Instructions

• DO NOT touch your piercing with dirty hands! Avoid touching as much as possible but if you must touch your piercing, ALWAYS wash hands thoroughly before doing so.
• You may experience some light bleeding from your fresh piercing. Any bleeding lasting longer than 48 hours should be reported to your piercer.
• You received an aftercare product that is a sterile saline spray. Use this product 3 times a day by spraying a small amount onto a clean dry paper towel or gauze pad. Place this on your piercing and allow to soak for 3-5 minutes. After this, you can gently remove any dried matter that has accumulated on the piercing or jewelry. You may also remove the dried matter in the shower by just allowing water to run over the area. DO NOT use any soap (see below)
• DO NOT touch or move your jewelry throughout the day during the healing process for any reason. This can be very painful and irritating to your fresh piercing, as the dried matter that can accumulate throughout the day will get turned through your piercing, causing damage to newly forming cells, irritation, and scarring. If, for any reason you need to touch your piercing, always perform a cleaning as stated above and always wash hands first.
• DO NOT use any rubbing alcohol and/or hydrogen peroxide on your healing piercing. These products can and will irritate and dry out your piercing and will not allow it to heal properly
• DO NOT use any antibiotic ointments on your healing piercing. Most of these products are petroleum-based and do not wash off easily. They can also collect dirt and debris and cause more problems in the long run.
• DO Not clean your piercing with any kind of soap, including anti-bacterial soap. These products are not meant to clean out open wounds
• DO NOT swim or subject your piercing to public water for 4-6 weeks or longer. Your piercing is an open, healing wound. Swimming, especially in a lake or river, can cause prolonged healing or an infection
• Any clothing worn over your piercing should ideally be loose fitting, soft and most importantly CLEAN. It is also a good idea to change your bedding frequently during the healing process.
• Your piercing may have small red rings surrounding it as well as some dry peeling skin and clear to yellow discharge that will become dry and crusty. These are NORMAL symptoms of a healing piercing and should not alarm you. If you feel you have an infection please see your piercer or seek medical advice.
• DO NOT remove your jewelry for ANY REASON until fully healed. The amount of time this takes varies between piercings. Your piercing has an average healing time of XXX weeks/months (Ask your piercer for your particular piercing information) as long as you care for it properly and are no longer seeing the healing related issues mentioned above for at least two weeks.
